The Senior Rebels earned three of a possible four points on the weekend following a 3-0 victory over Glentworth on Friday, December 6 and a 4-3 OT loss in Coronach the following Saturday evening.
Against the Thunder, Mitch Holick finally broke the shutout string of over four periods of hockey, scoring a powerplay marker early in the second period. It stood up as the only goal until Lane Cayer and Bryce Hall added tallies in the last half of the third to make it 3-0. Once again, Spencer Bushell was stellar in the twines and a good defence team helped to secure a much-needed win.
On Saturday in Merchantville, the Rebels came out the first period tying 1-1 on pretty tip in from Brett Leslie with only 11 skaters. The boys took the lead in the second, when Jarred Karst whipped one through the five hole, but Coronach tied it up. Brayden Delorme then scored on a beauty of a penalty shot, allowing the Rebs a 3-2 lead heading into the third. The Merchants got a shorthanded one half way through the period to tie it. Despite some good scoring chances, the game went into OT. The game appeared to be going to a shootout, only to have the home town squad notch the winner on a goalmouth scramble with 24 seconds to play. It was a valiant effort from the troops, but dejectedly, it wasn’t the desired result, so the Coronach earned their third victory over the Rebels, but these were all close affairs. The game featured a good old battle between Senior Rebel Josh Bryant and Coronach Merchant, Dallas Knudsen. Bryant handled himself well, earning a clear decision over the tough combatant. Toni Giraudier was solid in the nets for the Rebels, but in the end, her efforts were in vain.
