ASSINIBOIA - The Assiniboia Senior Rebels claimed two wins over the Coronach Merchants in the playoff finals to claim the Notekeu Championship title.
In their best-of-seven series, the Rebels had lost game one 7-6, won game two 8-3, won game three 5-4 and lost game four 3-0.
The Rebels won 8-2 during game five, held at the Assiniboia Civic Centre on March 18.
Kyle Hall opened scoring for the Rebels, with an assist from Braydon Delorme. Delorme scored his own goal nearly 10 minutes later, assisted by K. Hall. A lone goal was scored by the Merchants before the close of the first period.
The Rebels scored three times in the second period, with goals by Delorme, Josh Scott and Mitch Holick. Assists were provided by Matthew Lothian, Brett Leslie, K. Hall, Colton Lethbridge, and Holick.
The Merchants got back on the board early in the third period. A goal by Kyle Hall, and two by Bryce Hall completed the win for the Rebels. Assists were provided by B. Hall, Delorme, and K. Hall.
The Rebels earned the title championship, after winning game six in Coronach on March 19. The first period was tied, with Josh Scott scoring the first goal for Assiniboia, unassisted.
The Rebels scored three times in the second period. K. Hall had an unassisted goal, Braydon Delorme scored off assists by K. Hall and B. Hall; and Colton Lethbridge had an unassisted goal.
In the third period, an unassisted goal by K. Hall was enough to give the Rebels the win, and the right to claim the championship.
Spencer Bushell was in net for the Senior Rebels for both games.
