ASSINIBOIA - The Assiniboia Curling Club is officially rolling for another season. All leagues are now in operation.
The Monday Night Travelling League has seven teams entered. This year’s field includes: Flynn and Howe from Mossbank; Layman from Lafleche; Hanstock, Luas, Mountain, and last year’s champion Eldstrom.
The Afternoon League, which operates Mondays and Wednesdays, has anywhere between 14 to 21 participants. There’s always room for more so if interested just show up for games at 1:30 p.m.
The Thursday Night Richardson Pioneer Rec League has 18 rinks registered. Teams that might be interested in subbing, can call 306-642-5115.
The Assiniboia Curling Club will host the Provincial Ladies Scotties Last Chance Spiel from December 14 to 17. The final four teams from this tournament will advance to next year’s Provincial Championships to be held in Tisdale in March. The final field will be announced in early December. and will be made up of any interested teams that did not qualify through the Provincial Tour. Last season’s provincial champ, Robin Silvernagel, qualified through this event and is again entered.
There will be some great action so residents can mark the event of their calendar. Admission will be free and seating will be on a first-come, first-serve, basis. Residents are encouraged to come on out and enjoy your favorite beverage in the curling lounge, and watch some very skilled curling.
A "Family Night” of curling will be held once a month. Watch for dates on our Facebook page.
The after school program is just getting started. Grade 5 and 6 play on Tuesdays, Grade 7 and 9 play on Thursdays, and ACHS play on Mondays and Wednesdays. Parents can call their child’s school for further details. There will be a couple of playoffs held in Assiniboia in late January, early February. Details to follow.
The bonspiel calendar at the Assiniboia Rink has also been set: Seniors Open Mixed Cash will be held January 5 to 7, 2024. The Ladies Annual Spiel will be held March 14 and 15, 2024. The Men’s Open Spiel will be held March 21 to 23, 2024.
