The new curling season is off and sliding at the Assiniboia Curling Club. The Monday Night Travelling League commenced on Monday, November 11 with 10 teams in action this year. From Lafleche, the Sutherland rink, the Layman crew and the newly-formed Flynn rink are involved. From Mossbank, the Howe and Thorburn rinks are present once again. And from Assiniboia, rinks are skipped by Travis Eldstrom, Brent Blackwell, Tom Mountain, Ron Lucas and Ian Coghill. Action occurs every Monday night at 7:30 p.m. If anyone wants to see some excellent curling, drop down to the POW and view some great shot making. The schedule is posted on the curlassiniboia.com website.
The Thursday Night Competitive League has a full slate of 16 teams this year. Draws occur at 6:30-8:30 p.m. every Thursday – this will be the ACC’s busiest night of the week.
The Afternoon Co-ed Recreation group is up and running. The ACC is still looking for curlers, so if anyone is interested in some afternoon exercise on Mondays or Wednesdays, (or both days) from 1:30 to 3:30, give the ACC a call at 306-642-5115 to get into the action.
The same will apply for the Tuesday Night Non-Competitive night. Only one team has been entered so far. This night is good chance for families, or more recreational curlers to get in on the game. The ACC desperately need more curlers here to make this night a go.
The youth groups, including the ACHS on Mondays and Wednesdays and AES on Tuesdays and Thursdays after school, are just in the organizational phase. These curlers represent the future of curling in Assiniboia, so it’s important to have a strong program going for local high school and elementary school students. If anyone is interested in acting as a spare for any of these events, call the ACCS and leave their names and numbers.
Finally, as reminder, the ACC is offering a Curl Sask Camp on Saturday, November 16 from 10-2 p.m. for ages 10-17. Please call 306-642-5115 to partipate and fine tune the basics of the game. The cost is $20.
