Road Race attracts 105 participants

Weyburn's Opportunity Road Race hit the streets on Sunday, August 21 with 105 entrants coming from Winnipeg, Regina, Saskatoon, Moose Jaw, Oxbow and Weyburn and area.

Krista and Mike Missal, along with their sons Leo and Jack, participated in the inaugural Weyburn's Opportunity Road Race held Sunday, August 21. The race saw 105 participants, from as far away as Winnipeg, compete in the event.

Weyburn's Opportunity Road Race hit the streets on Sunday, August 21 with 105 entrants coming from Winnipeg, Regina, Saskatoon, Moose Jaw, Oxbow and Weyburn and area.

The event saw participants compete in three different race distances including 5 km, 10 km and 15 km. Pledge sheets for the race were optional with $310.00 collected, with an additional $4095.00 from entries for the Weyburn and District Hospital Foundation. The Weyburn Comprehensive School SRC members helped to host the post-race breakfast and received a donation of $858.00.

All entrants received a race package full of goodies including a race t-shirt and a medal when they crossed the finish line.

The winners in the 5 km division were: Dave Wakefield with a time of 20:25 and Charmaine Lindsay coming in at 24:11. In the 10 km division, Gerry Nagy came in with a time of 36:45 and Diana Nagy posted a time of 45:56. In the 15 km division, Lance Wakefield crossed the line at 55:31 with Megan Zmetana coming in at 1:07:42.

Committee members Sarah Church, Lindsee Michel, Melissa Frank, Twila Walkeden, Monique Huebner, Miranda Spencer, Andy Broccolo and Martin Hirssons were all pleased with the event and hope that next year will be even bigger and better.
