The Richardson Pioneer Weyburn Red Wings hosted the Melville Millionaires Tuesday night and it was just the kind of win the Wings needed to get them back on their feet.

14 minutes and 51 seconds into the first period and on a power play, Jevon Schwean passed the puck across the width of the ice to Nick Dobson. From the blue line in the Millionaires end, Dobson drove towards the net and sniped past two Millionaires players and into the back of the net.

The Red Wings dominated the second period, outshooting the Millionaires 18-6. Shayde Peterson finally put up the second goal of the night just over 11 minutes in. Dobson fired one at the net which rebounded off the Millionaires goaltender’s pads. Dace Prymak was there to pick up the rebound and guide it towards Peterson who was coming in hot. With a Millionaires player right on his tail, Peterson quickly one-timed it into the netting.

For the last four minutes of the game, the Millionaires decided to pull their goalie. The extra Millionaires man proved to put a bit of strain on the Red Wings as final shots for the period were only 12-9 for the Wings. Nonetheless the empty net would be part of the Millionaires demise as Prymak scored an empty netter just before the final buzzer. Jordan Gagnon and Connor Stephenson were credited with the assists.

Final shots were 38-23 for the Red Wings with Joseph Young in net for the Wings. The 3-0 victory over Melville marked Young's third shutout of the season.

The three stars for the game were given to Shayde Peterson with the third star, Nick Dobson with the second and Joseph Young with the first.

With the season quickly coming to a close, it’s crucial the Red Wings find a way to win in pretty much every game from here on if they have any chance of making it to playoffs.

Next up the Red Wings host the Yorkton Terriers twice in a row on Thursday, Jan. 9 and Tuesday, Jan. 14. Both games start at 7:30 p.m. at Crescent Point Place.
