The Petro Bakken Midget Wings kicked off their first regular season with a home game on October 9 and came away with a win to get the season off to a good start. The Wings defeated the Regina Flames by a score of 5-4. The contest was a back and forth affair with Weyburn taking the lead halfway through the first period on a goal by Lyndon Lumb and assisted by Donovan Lumb. The Flames fought back and took a 2-1 lead into the first intermission.
The second period saw only one goal as Weyburn tied the contest at two. The goal was scored by Tucker Neuberger, assisted by Braden Rood and Kyle Crozier. In the third period, Weyburn regained the lead early, on a goal from Kendall Oliver only to see the Flames come back and score two goals in a span of 30 seconds.
While killing off a two-man advantage, the Wings got the spark they needed when Braden Mellon broke up a pass and scored on a breakaway to once again tie the game. With just under two minutes left to play, the Wings regained the lead for good on a highlight reel goal from Kolten Cleasby, set up nicely by Cole Sjostrand.
Next action for the Wings will be on October 23 when they will travel to Regina for a rematch with the Flames. Weyburn's next home game is on October 30 at 7:30 in Crescent Point Place, for a battle with the Melville Millionaires.
