In their second round two-game, total-goals provincial series, the Estevan Sherritt Coal peewee AA Bruins took on the Melville Millionaires.
Game one was played in Melville last Tuesday and saw the Millionaires squeak by the Bruins 3-2.
Melville scored one goal in each of the three periods, while Estevan could only match them in the first and second. Scoring for the Bruins were Josh Skjonsby and Peyton Stevenson, while Cam Lavoie and Carter Phair split the goaltending duties in the loss and made 35 saves combined.
Game two was played at the Civic on Saturday and was another close matchup. The Millionaires jumped out to a 3-0 lead, only to watch the Bruins storm back to tie it on markers by Matt Bill, Colton Winton and Ryland Daoust.
Tyran Brown, Erik McKersie and Stevenson each scored after that, and Estevan went on to win the contest 6-5, which tied the two-game, total goals series at eight goals apiece.
They then went into overtime to decide a winner and unfortunately for the Bruins, Marial Beny of the Millionaires scored the winner in double-OT with 4:16 left to play.
Bruins head coach Brad Pierson said the series loss can be attributed to poor play in game one last Tuesday.
"As a coaching staff we were very disappointed with our effort in Melville, we just didn't compete and only lost 3-2," said Pierson. "Instead of getting mad at the kids, we went into practice on Thursday and worked on the power play, but then just turned it into a fun practice to see if that would work, and it did."
The Bruins and Millionaires also played a pair of league games at the Civic over the past few days. Estevan downed the Mils 5-2 on Sunday afternoon on the legs of goals from McKersie (3) and Skjonsby (2).
The two clubs also played on Tuesday night at the Civic, however game results were not available at press time.
The Bruins are off this weekend and will hit the road next week, starting on Thursday in Weyburn, before a pair of matchups with the Mils in Melville on Saturday and Sunday.
