On Tuesday, Oct. 9, Assiniboia Elementary School hosted their first Cross-Country meet at the Assiniboia Golf Course with 27 participants attending. As the cool air made its way into the area, runners bundled themselves up to run their 2-kilometre race.
Athletes from Assiniboia Elementary, Mossbank, Gravelbourg and Glentworth schools made their way around the 1 km loop for the course walk through to begin the meet. Once they were familiar with the course, the five grade 5-6 girls made their way to the start line to kick off the event, followed by the 18 grade 5-6 boys. The grade 7-8 boys and girls finished off the race, running the course at the same time as there were just four athletes. Coach Burnay and her assistants set up a great course that challenged the athletes with the varying terrain. With volunteers on the course directing the athletes, the races ran smoothly. Next year’s meet will be bigger and better. Â
