This past weekend the novice cougars hosted 8 teams for their tournament, they started the weekend out strong playing Montmarte first thing Saturday morning. It was one of those games that kept you on your toes and not knowing until the whistle blew who was going to come out on top. They came out slow at first but gained momentum, to keep it a one point game up until the very end. Zane Winter made some great saves to give the Cougars the first win of the tournament. We have been very fortunate this year to have a fantastic group of parents to be working with, and it showed this weekend, great job to all the workers and organizers everything ran very smoothly both days thanks to team work on and off the ice. Their next game was at 5 against the Ochapawace Thunder, this team of 20 was energetic and entertaining. Even with the big break the Cougars still came out focused and ready to play. They really worked together as a team and made some amazing plays. Zane got his 2nd shutout of the year and the Cougars were victorious once again.
Sunday morning we were all once again up early and heading to the rink, to play the Estevan Leafs. The kids were lively in the dressing room but started out slow on the ice. They came alive in the 2nd but couldn't catch the Leafs on the score board, they would take their first loss of the tournament. They would have another big break and need to rest in order to come out strong in their last game. When 5 o'clock rolled around the cougars were pumped and ready to get on the ice and face the Estevan Stars for their final game of the weekend. The stands were full and the fans were excited for a good game, and we were not disappointed. It was a nail biter from start to finish, in more ways than one! The Cougars would come away with a hard fought W, great job to Colby C for stepping into net at the last minute. We couldn't do this tournament without all the amazing people who are around and give up their time to ref. Fabulous job everyone for an amazingly successful weekend! See you at the rink.
