Local bass fishers couldn't have asked for a better day for the third annual KRJ International Bass Tournament on Saturday.
The sunny day was spent scouring for fish at Boundary Dam, with Dan and Travis Mosley emerging as the winners at the end of the day.
The Mosley team reeled in the highest total weight at 14.76 pounds.
On top of that, Dan Mosley earned the Big Bass award by snaring the heaviest fish of the day at 4.1 pounds.
Tournament director Todd Folkerts said the 11 teams entered was down from an average of closer to 18, but he was happy with the fishing.
"The calibre of fishing and the competitiveness of this event is top notch. These guys can fish," he said.
"The showing was the showing and the people that wanted to be here were here."
The boats launched around 7 a.m. on Saturday and returned at about 3:30 p.m., followed by the award presentations at the Estevan Wildlife Federation clubhouse.
Lance Marcotte and Keith Parkinson finished second with a total weight of 14.36 pounds.
Folkerts and Dalan Wheeler were third with 13.32 pounds, followed by Clint Harkins and Chandler Harkins at 12.04 pounds.
The Mosleys earned $700 for taking first place, with the other winners receiving $500, $400 and $200 respectively.
Folkerts said the fishers definitely noticed a difference in the dam with the massive inflows caused by recent rainfall.
"We don't go to one spot and leave it. A lot of us will come back to another spot, say a couple of hours later, and you can tell already that what we were fishing had been flooded again, that the dam was rising and the water's getting muddy," he said.
