Midget AA Bruins extinguish Flames

The Apex midget AA Bruins cleaned up their league playoff series with the Regina Flames in a no-contest sweep. Game one saw the Bruins dominate, finishing with a 13-1 win at the Civic on March 5.

Game one saw the Bruins dominate, finishing with a 13-1 win at the Civic on March 5. Dylan Herzberg led the way for the Bruins, scoring four goals and an assist on Jake McMillen's goal that opened scoring for the Bruins in the first period.

Herzberg gave the Bruins the 2-0 edge after one.

In the second period Estevan took control of the game, scoring seven times on 10 shots.

Both Herzberg and Klae Bayda scored twice in the frame. Meanwhile Regina scored their only goal of the game on Nate Ferris, who stopped 17 of 18 shots.

Dylan Johner, Mark Moriarty and Marshall Holzer scored the Bruins' other goals, giving them 9-1 lead heading into the third.

In the final period the Bruins were able to cruise, while putting four more pucks to the back of the net.

McMillen and Holzer each scored their second goals of the game. Jolan Lingelbach scored his lone goal and Herzberg scored once more.

Not much changed in game two. With the Bruins on the road March 6, they continued to handle the Flames without much difficulty.

Dylan Johner scored a hat trick in the first period, leading the Bruins to a 6-1 close of the first period. Other goals were scored by Brody Connelly and Rhett Handley, who netted two.

Regina had their best period of the series in the second when they matched the Bruins for goals, escaping with one score each. Dylan Herzberg scored the Bruins lone goal. That left the game at 7-2 heading into the third.

Johner potted one more; Handley completed his three-goal night and Herzberg and Josh Ferris each posted one marker in the third period. Johner set the bar with eight points on the night, followed closely by Herzberg with seven.

Tyler Myers earned the win in the Bruins net.

The 11-2 final means the Bruins are moving on in league playoffs. Their next opponent and schedule are still to be determined.
