Her life revolves around volleyball, and now Kendelle Marr will be able to play the sport at the next level.
The outside hitter for the Elecs senior girls' squad has committed to Concordia University in Edmonton.
Marr is the third local player to advance to the post-secondary level in recent years, following Yakira Smeltzer and Courtney Peterson.
"I'm pretty excited because I love playing volleyball and I've been playing it competitively for four years," said Marr.
"She worked really hard to get to where she is now and she does nothing but eat, sleep and breathe volleyball," added her coach, Becky Tait.
Marr, who will study psychology, was persistent in her search for a university to call home, a goal she established in Grade 10.
"My mom got a list of schools that have (good psychology programs). With the help of Becky and my other teachers, I made a video," she said.
Several teams responded, but Marr missed some other tryouts due to sickness.
"It's really exciting for Estevan to have any athlete in any sport go on, but it's really exciting for volleyball because it hasn't been super strong in Estevan, but it's starting to come," said Tait.
The coach added that Marr is a jack of all trades, able to play any role asked of her.
"Kendelle is an overall strong player; she doesn't excel in one area over another. She's very diverse in the sense that she can do defence, offence, block, hit, dig," said Tait.
"She doesn't have a lot of size, but she can jump high. She has worked hard on her jump training to get to where she needs to be."
Marr added that she's able to keep a level head on the court.
"I want to win, but I understand that playing to the best of your ability, even if you lose, is important. I'm a pretty good leader on and off the court, so I've been told," she chuckled.
Tait said one of the traits that makes Marr attractive to coaches is her dedication.
"She loves the game and would give anything to play it. She's very coachable, she does anything you ask her to do.
"That's why some coaches can really get excited about having her on board."
Marr also has big game experience, having played in her second consecutive national championship with the Weyburn Alouettes May 13-15 in Abbotsford, B.C.
She played with the Rafferty Rebels at the 2010 event.
