Three local figure skaters competed at the BMO Skate Canada Sectionals competition held in Regina over the weekend of Nov 12-14.
The sectionals are a provincial competition for competitive skaters trying to advance to Western Canadians as well as to make the provincial teams.
In the Pre-Novice event, Kayla Brodziak was ninth in the short program, 13th in the long and ninth out of a large group of 25 skaters. Jessica Pastachak was 23rd in the short, 18th in the long and moved up to 21st overall.
In the Novice event, Maddie Blischak was third in both the short and long and placed third overall. Along with a bronze medal, she was also awarded the BMO Merit Award for her "outstanding performace" at that competition.
Blischak has now qualified to represent Saskatchewan at the BMO Western Challenge Event in Mississauga from Dec 1-5. While there, she will compete against the top skaters from B.C. to Western Ontario.
Blischak was also named an alternate for the Canada Winter Games to be this held later winter.
Next action for the skating club will be the Western Challenge for Blischak, as the rest of the club heads off to Moosomin for the Regional competition on Dec 2.
