Lenferna sets a new provincial record

Weyburn's Claudia Lenferna set a new provincial record during the Weyburn Silver Seals' annual swim meet July 17.Lenferna, who is also Weyburn's head coach, set the record in the 18-and-over girls' 50-metre butterfly with a time of 33.31 seconds. The previous record of 33.97 seconds was set in 1996. Lenferna went on to win an overall silver medal in the 18-and-over girls' competition, thanks to three first place finishes and two second place finishes. Steven Speers also won silver at the meet in the 13 and 14 boys' event with three first place finishes and a second. Breanne Walkeden and Kaylynn Jensen were bronze medallists at the meet. Walkeden had a first place finish and three second place finishes in the 15 to 17 girls' competition. Jensen had three second place finishes and two third place finishes in the 18-and-over girls' event. A total of 192 swimmers from nine clubs across the southern half of the province attended the meet. Forty-five of the swimmers were from Weyburn. Members of the Silver Seals will travel to Regina on July 24 to take part in the south semi-finals. Swimmers who place in the top six of each event will receive an invitation to attend provincials in Swift Current on July 31.
