KIPLING - The weather this past weekend held up for the most part for golfers taking part in the local tournaments.
The rain shower towards the end of the afternoon seemed to have very little impact for golfers on the Kingswood Golf Course on Sept. 11.
The annual Kingswood Golf Ladies Tournament welcomed 86 golfers to the green for friendly golf competition. This was an 18-hole, four-person Tex-Mex tournament, giving all golfers an opportunity to show off their skills.
Making the day even more memorable was the attire some golfers chose to wear. Some donned neon colors, cowboy hats, hats with horns and frilly tutus. And some teams donned matching Saskatchewan Roughriders gear.
Due to the rain shower towards the end of the tournament, golfers took cover in the shed for drinks and a much-deserved steak dinner with all the fixings. The atmosphere throughout the day was evident – it was less about competition and more about enjoying the game together.
Volunteers for the event made the day possible. Committee members of the Kingswood Golf Course were kept busy and making sure the event ran smooth from the beginning to the end.
At the end of the tournament, there were three teams who tied with the lowest score of 73. The winning team, on a countback, was Norma Schneider, Linda Gliem, Bernie Blackstock and Breanne Blackstock. The team was thankful to Gee Bee Construction for winning matching sweatshirts as their prizes.
“The tournament was well organized and well run,” commented Bernie Blackstock, speaking on behalf of her winning team, to which the others agreed. “We all had a great time.”
Most honest golf team, with a score of 92, included Donna Olver, Joan Zepick, Anita Katona and Gloria Struble.
Other winners of the tournament included:
Longest putt of 34 feet went to Lisa Stewart;
Longest drive went to Bernie Blackstock; and
Closest to the pin went to Deb Hubbard with a distance of 10 ft. 8 in.
Sharron Szucs was the lucky winner of the 50/50 draw, winning $315.
Many other raffle prizes were also drawn for following the supper.
The committee explains that this year’s tournament had more golfers entered than they’ve had in quite a few years. They hope to see the golfers all back again next year.
