Rhett Handley's six points were not enough to save the Estevan Big Dogs from a 15-7 loss to the Yorkton Bulldogs on Sunday in Prairie Gold Lacrosse League action.

Handley had four goals in the road contest, but the Big Dogs dropped their second straight game to open the PGLL season.

Estevan's downfall was the second period, which saw the Bulldogs score seven goals, including four in a span of three minutes.

The Big Dogs were shorthanded, dressing 14 players to Yorkton's 19.

Estevan trailed 4-1 after one, with their lone goal coming from Handley at the 7:55 mark.

Handley and Bruins forward Dylan Smith, a new recruit, scored 82 seconds apart midway through the second, and Ryan Curzon netted his first of two goals later in the frame.

Yorkton led 11-4 after two periods.

The Bulldogs outscored the Big Dogs 4-3 in the final stanza. Handley struck twice for Estevan within 70 seconds, and Curzon scored the team's last goal with 4:17 remaining.

Marshall Holzer chipped in three assists for Estevan. Smith contributed two and Tanner Froese added one.

Jayden Dozorec, Justin Genaille and Zach Soke each potted hat tricks for Yorkton. Jerason Fisher and Dalton Bakke notched two goals apiece, while Brendon Tuberfield and Jackson Tetreault each had singles.

The Big Dogs' next game is Saturday afternoon against the Prince Albert Predators at the Lignite Miners Centre. Game time is 2 p.m.
