Club volleyball is alive and well in Carlyle! The Carlyle Fusions Volleyball Club recently wound up a very successful season.
This year was the first club volleyball season for our 14 Under Women's team, and as such, proved to be a learning experience for both players and coaches. Despite a number of challenges throughout the season, the 14's were able to attend the Brandon Cats Volleyball Tournament on March 25th & 26th. Coached by MariahBrown and JilleesaBrown, team members include Hannah Coffey, Hannah Duhaime, Britney Hutchings, Cassidy Lequyer and Summer Longie. All of these young players show much promise!!
Most members of our 15 Under Women's team returned for a second season, with the addition of two new faces on our line up. With over 40 teams entered in our age class, we met up with teams from as far north as Prince Albert, as far west as Medicine Hat, and as far east as Winnipeg. Our season started off the Asics Cup in Yorkton on Jan 29/30, where we placed 4th in Tier 2. We then attended the Queen City Volleyball Club Tournament in Regina on March 12/13, the Moose Jaw Element Tournament on April 2/3, and the Virden Club West Tournament on April 10. Under the direction of Coach Bryce Birch, the girls improved steadily, with their sights set on a medal finish at SVA Provincials in Lloydminster on April 30/May 1.
Despite СÀ¶ÊÓƵ tired and weary from the 8 hour drive, we started off Saturday with wins over Prince Albert Esprit and the Nipawin Volleyball Clubs, and losses to the Yorkton Blitz Nitro and Saskatoon Smash, placing 3rd in our pool. During the playoffs on Sunday, the girls truly came together as a unit and never lost a game from that point onwards, defeating first the North Battleford Crush, then the Waldheim Raiders and finally the Rosthern Huskies on their way to victory, topping off their season with Tier 3 Gold Medals!!
Team members include Mykayla Brems (middle), Megan Reaves (left side/middle), Kacey Valentine (right side), Brooklyn Zacharias (right side), Renae Fafard (setter), Desiray Weber (middle), Nikita Meyer (left side), Jamie Barsness (left side) and Simone Boutin (right side/setter).
This team remains a force to be reckoned with and the future of club volleyball in Carlyle looks bright!
