Estevan Sharks open their seasons with impressive showings

The Estevan Sharks water polo program had a good start to the season during competitions in Weyburn and Regina.

ESTEVAN - Members of the Estevan Sharks water polo program opened their season with tournaments in Weyburn.

The U13 girls were first to jump into the water with an early-morning game. Meredeth Knoll, Sianna Goudy, Ayla Smelt and Grace Trepanier joined with Weyburn's U13 girls to form a team. The players had a strong showing, finishing 2-4 against the veteran Regina clubs.

The Estevan mini Sharks were next in the water. They had two teams entered in the tournament. The Estevan mini Blue and the Estevan mini White teams were both undefeated with records of 5-0 and 4-0, respectively. The top scorers for Sharks Blue were Jaxson Ward and Maverick Martendale. The Sharks White were led by Elijah Vanstone, Gavin Tinant and Willow Van Sickle.

Finishing the day strong were the U13 boys' Sharks. They were also undefeated with a record of 4-0. The team was led in points by veteran players Dalton Maley, Royce Milford and Hudson Enns. 

Also, Oct. 14 and 15 marked the first tournament of the season in Community League play for Water Polo Saskatchewan in both the 15U and open divisions. The Estevan Sharks had three players attend.

Tyler Gillies and Keegan Mennie-Kindlein competed with the Armada Blue team out of Regina in the open men's division on Oct. 15, coming away with a 2-3 record. Gillies scored three goals during the tournament and both Gillies and Mennie-Kindlein helped their team. All games were exciting to watch and ended with close scores.

Jennika Linthicum competed with the Armada White in the 15U division and Prairies Green team in open women's competition both days. Linthicum helped lead the Armada White to a 4-0-1 record, scoring 13 goals on the opening day. On the second day, the Prairies Green open team played four games and had some close competition, but ended with a record of 0-4, Linthicum scored three goals.

These divisions will be back in action in Regina on Nov. 4 and 5.
