The SJHL held its annual meetings this weekend in Nipawin and one of the items on the agenda was the awarding of the league's showcase for 2011-12.
The Estevan Bruins were awarded the annual event, which sees all 12 teams play in one venue for several days, all while СÀ¶ÊÓƵ watched by scouts from the NCAA, WHL and NHL.
The Showcase will run at Spectra Place the weekend of Oct. 14.
The event is considered a crucial prong of the SJHL's scholarship strategy. It was held in Weyburn last season and in North Battleford the year before that.
The weekend will also be an opportunity for Estevan to show off its new state-of-the-art arena to the Saskatchewan hockey world.
League coaches spent much of the weekend meetings hammering out a schedule for next season, including the Showcase slate. It is expected to be announced in the coming days.
In other news arising from the league meetings, Yorkton has been awarded this year's Hall of Fame festivities, to take place the weekend of Nov. 18.
New SJHL president Bill Chow said in a release that discussions were held about getting more scholarships for league players, and one measure discussed was to ensure all players are eligible for NCAA consideration.
"One item identified is that not all of our players write their exams to become eligible to be identified for opportunities to further advance their education and hockey opportunities either in Canada or in the United States," Chow said.
"Plans are СÀ¶ÊÓƵ formulated to ensure players that are eligible will write the appropriate exams."
