Estevan Bears drop two straight versus Swift Current

The Estevan U18 AAA Bears lost 6-5 on Friday night in a shootout and 2-0 Saturday afternoon in home games against Swift Current.

ESTEVAN - The Estevan Bears's season-long trend of win one, lose one came to an end on the weekend, as they dropped two straight games to the Swift Current Legionnaires at Affinity Place.

Estevan lost 6-5 in a shootout on Friday night and 5-0 on Saturday afternoon to fall to 4-4-2 on the season.

Tallen Wallis and Evhan Allan scored 13 seconds apart in the opening five minutes of the game to give the Bears a 2-0 advantage in Friday night's game, and Roan Burgess scored early in the second to put Estevan up by three. Swift Current replied with one, but Thomas Ries' goal restored Estevan's three-goal advantage.

The Legionnaires scored four times in 3 1/2 minutes to take a 5-4 lead, but Cooper Flath's goal with 71 seconds to play in the middle frame knotted up the game again.

Neither team scored in the third period or overtime, and Swift Current had a 2-0 edge in the shootout.

Kaden Perron stopped 21 of the 26 shots he faced for Estevan, who outshot Swift Current 38-26.

Swift Current scored on a power play early in Saturday's game and pulled away as the game went along. The Legionnaires added two in each of the second and third periods for the five-goal margin of victory.

Cole Ivey stopped 21 shots for Estevan.

The Bears will be back on the ice on Oct. 25 when they host the Regina Pat Canadians at 8 p.m.  Then they will play the Yorkton Maulers on Oct. 28 at 7 p.m. at the Carlyle Sports Arena, and host the Maulers the following afternoon at 2:30 p.m. at Affinity Place.
