Scott Benning is a name synonymous with soccer in Weyburn. Scott is a soccer coach, referee, technical director, website updater and a proud soccer dad. It's safe to say he loves the sport and he has shared his passion for the game with the people of Weyburn and Saskatchewan. Without Scott's vision for the sport of soccer, it's likely that the Weyburn Soccer Association (WSA) or Weyburn Community Soccer (WCS) would not be as successful as they have been. Over the years both organizations have seen their numbers grow.

Scott also actively recruits coaches. He has spent numerous hours working on websites and other resources so that every coach in Weyburn is given a coaches manual to give them the proper tools to assist the players. He encourages the parents to become coaches for their children because without parent involvement we would not have the success that we do. He keeps everyone informed of up-coming coaching clinics and if enough interest, will make arrangements for clinics to be held in Weyburn. In order to assist our parents that coach, Scott implemented our Rep team players becoming referees. This allows the parents to only worry about coaching and not needing to be fully knowledgeable of the rules as that seems to scare the parents away.

In 2006, Scott witnessed players whom had traveled to Provincials sit on the bench the whole time. It was after that Scott proceeded to make serious changes in which WSA is run. That following year, WSA passed a ruling that every player on a rep team is entitled to play 1/3 of every half.

As the technical director for WSA, Scott is always willing to help where needed in order for the coaches, players and the WSA to succeed. When numbers are high for tryouts for one coach to run he has come and assisted in the evaluation of the players. When coaches are unable to make it to the field due to other commitments he has stepped in and ensured the practices take place. Scott ensures that if he cannot be with a team that he is following their progress. Scott is looking for the betterment of the players and our organization, and teaches the players how to play soccer but also how to be ambassadors of the City of Weyburn. Scott is the reason that when you travel to a soccer tournament and there is a Weyburn team that you will see all of the players with WEYBURN SOCCER on their backs!
