Carlyle Curling Club's 6th annual Oilman's Bonspiel is almost here.
Organized to be held Feb. 24 to 27, the spiel provides oilmen and women the perfect opportunity to break away from the routine of work and spend some time having some much needed fun, all while engaging in healthy competition.
Three out of four people on the team must work in the oil field, but with that said, a team can have more than four people (ie: spare players) and therefore organizers are not overly strict on this rule.
Partners of oilmen (or oilwomen) are welcome to play on teams, as well.
The main thing is for people to come out, have fun and hopefully meet new people.
There is a 100 per cent cash payout of the entry fees, so the more teams, the better the prize. Last year, there were 20 teams entered and organizers are hoping to hit the 32-team limit this year. So far, there are 10 teams registered, and many other teams who will likely register in the coming days.
If you aren't a great curling, no worries, everyone is welcome to come out, even first-timers. Further, if you don't find yourself on one of the winning teams, there is plenty of opportunity to take home a prize from the banquet held Feb. 25 at Carlyle Memorial Hall.
In addition to great food, there will be a live auction calcutta at the banquet. The night will end off with a dance hosted by a deejay.
Moose Mountain Mud is sponsoring a pizza and wing night on Saturday night at the upstairs part in the curling rink. This will start between 6 p.m. and 7 p.m.
"It's lots of fun", said organizer Kirk Himmelspach, of why people should enter a team. "People just come out to have a good time. It's not real serious, but there is cash if you win. Basically, it's just fun."
The entry fee for the Oilman's is $120 a team. To enter a team contact the Carlyle Curling Club at 453-6722, Kirk Himmelspach at 575-7138, or Anita Delalleau at 577-9104.
