The team started the New Year off in Stoughton. It was nice to see Stoughton put together a team of up and coming stars but the game between Stoughton and Carlyle was all about Carlyle. Each player on the Carlyle team received a goal and newcomer Micheline "Missy"came away with the shut out.
On Jan.14th the team found themselves some tough competition. Carlyle played host to the Carnduff Junior Devils and once again took a substantial lead finishing the first period up by four goals. A short break was taken and Carlyle was feeling quite confident in there hockey abilities starting the second period. Carnduff came out hard and within 8 minutes they had tied the game. This was the first game of the season where Carlyle had found themselves needing to battle hard. Carlyle lost this game 10-7 but along with this loss came a great deal of learning for this strong team.
On Jan. 15th Carlyle travelled to Wawota for what they knew was going to be a tough game. With there new experience from the loss the day before Carlyle came prepared and ready to play. A beautiful set up by Nathan Bye to Makenna Morrison started off the game. 'A.P." Adrien Riddell set up Lane Gosselin, Jace Fisher tipped in a shot from defenseman Devon Sanders and Nathan Bye scored with 1 min left in the period to end the first period up by 1. Nathan Bye scored their only goal in the second period whereas Wawota came back strong picking up 5. Carlyle new they needed to keep skating and working hard in order to win this game. The win wasn't to be but it was not due to lack of hard work as Carlyle won the third period as well with Jace Fisher netting 2 and Nathan Bye scoring 1 to Wawota's 2 goals. Final 10-8.
Carlyle Atoms still have plenty of hockey left to play so be sure to stop in at the Carlyle Sports Arena and cheer them on.
