Bruins lock up three more prospects

Estevan Bruins head coach and general manager Keith Cassidy continues to pile up the kilometres, inking three more list players to contracts last week.

Estevan Bruins head coach and general manager Keith Cassidy continues to pile up the kilometres, inking three more list players to contracts last week.

Brandon Wheat Kings forward Matt Brykaliuk, Beardy's Blackhawks goalie Steven Glass and Saskatoon Contacts left winger Taylor Reich are the latest additions.

All three players are 1993-born.

Reich, an Estevan product, had committed to the Bruins earlier this month, but hadn't been able to meet with Cassidy to sign the contract.

Brykaliuk, a Brandon native, finished eighth in the Manitoba Midget AAA Hockey League last year with 22 goals and 53 points. He was also an alternate captain for the Wheat Kings.

He is considered one of the most promising forwards on the team's protected list.

"I talked to the coach he played for last year and a good family friend and he comes highly recommended. With the numbers he put up, it's a good signing," Cassidy said of Brykaliuk.

Glass is considered the top goalie prospect in the organization and will be the favourite to back up returning netminder Shea Cooper next season.

Cassidy said Glass has a chance "to step in and become a good goaltender with some training. He seems like a great young kid and the main thing we're shooting for this year is having character people on the team."

The coach said Reich is eager to join his hometown club.

"The guys that excite me are the ones who are absolutely committed to СÀ¶ÊÓƵ a Bruin. It's going to be exciting to see these guys on the ice and get some first-hand knowledge of what everyone else is saying."

One prospect the Bruins have yet to sign is Manitoba midget scoring leader Jesse Bernard of the СÀ¶ÊÓƵwest Cougars.

Bernard has multiple teams after him and Cassidy said he continues to be in contact with the top prospect.

In other Bruins news, the team released its 2011-12 schedule recently.

The Bruins will play their first regular season game in Spectra Place on Sept. 17 against the Melville Millionaires and wrap up with a home-and-home against Weyburn Feb. 17-18.

They have two pre-season games at home, Sept. 6 against Weyburn and Sept. 13 against Notre Dame.
