The Estevan TS&M bantam AA Bruins bested the Melville Millionaires on Saturday, defeating their opponent in dominating fashion.
Shorthanded midway through the first period, Zach Paxman took advantage of a misplay of the puck by a Millionaires defenceman and walked in all alone to give the Bruins a 1-0 lead. That lead held through the rest of the period as the Bruins headed into the second having only allowed three shots.
It was a similar story in the second when the Bruins held their Melville counterparts to only six shots while scoring one more, this time by Regan Haukeness.
With the Bruins leading 2-0 entering the third period, the Millionaires needed their biggest push of the game, and they peppered Bruins goalie Tanner Tytlandsvik with 15 shots but only managed to get one by him.
Estevan scored twice more in the third period, as Haukeness put in his second of the game, and Talys Halabuza scored a power play goal with only five seconds remaining, finishing with a 4-1 win.
Estevan also hosted the Weyburn Crescent Point Wings on Sunday at the Civic Auditorium. The Bruins lost the back-and-forth contest 5-4.
The Bruins got things going early when Chase McKersie scored on the power play for the Bruins to jump to the first lead.
Blaine Herzberg put the Bruins ahead 2-0 in the first period on his goal with 4:24 left, and that's how it would stay heading into the second.
Zach Paxman gave the Bruins the 3-0 lead about five minutes into the second period, but after that, the Bruins faltered.
With the Bruins taking a number of penalties in the second, Weyburn started their comeback with two power play goals. The Wings tied the game with five minutes to go in the second, and the teams went into the third in a 3-3 tie.
The first half of the third was a stalemate until Weyburn took their first lead of the game with 6:58 left.
Talys Halabuza answered for the Bruins 35 seconds later, but they couldn't maintain that momentum.
Weyburn scored the game winner with 1:16 remaining in the game, but the Bruins were unable to tie it in the final minute.
The Bruins will start league playoffs soon.
