The Estevan Power Dodge Chargers bantam girls' team is playing in both the league and provincial championships.
Heading into the league final against the Prairie Storm this past weekend, the Chargers dropped the first game on the road 3-1.
Madison Colbow scored for the Chargers just 16 seconds into the first game, but they couldn't get another one past the opposing goaltender and suffered three goals in the final two periods.
The Chargers hosted the Storm on Sunday for the second game in the best-of-three series. In goal for Estevan Tamara Irwin stood tall, collecting a shutout and a win to keep the series alive.
With no score going into the third period of game two, Colbow took control and potted the first goal of the game 9:50 into the final frame. She scored again three minutes later to give the Chargers the two-goal cushion.
Irwin kept the door closed as they rolled to the 2-0 win. The final game was on the road last night, but results were unavailable before press time.
In the league playoff semi-final on March 15, the Chargers were down a goal in their two-game, total-goals series against the Moose Jaw Warriors after game one but fought back to dominate the second game at home.
Tamara Irwin was in goal for the Bruins, earning the shutout in the 4-0 victory.
The Chargers set the pace in the first period but were unable to put it by the Warriors' goaltender, and the teams exited the first scoreless.
The goals started to come for the Bruins in the second frame,when Ashley Chapman banged in a goal less than three minutes in. Bailey Pierson quickly followed up that goal, just three minutes later to give the Bruins the 2-0 cushion.
Continuing to control the game, the Chargers came out in the third and collected two more. Brooklyn Dukart gave the Bruins the 3-0 lead, and Paige Smith notched the final goal in the dying seconds.
The provincial finals series starts this Friday at 7 p.m. at the Civic against Swift Current.
