The Bantam Cougars began their series of provincial playoffs against the Balgonie Prairie Storm. The team traveled to Balgonie for Game #1 on January.30th. The Cougars have joined up with five players from Carnduff for our provincial team. Barrett Paton, Connor Paton, Dylan Plews, Wyatt Revet and Cole Lamport. The Cougar fans headed out to watch the teams warm up and experienced some nervous excitement for the game to begin. Two minutes into the game Balgonie struck first, putting the first point of the game on the board. Encouraging our players to relax and have some fun, we were delighted to hear "Carlyle's goal" four times this period with Prairie Storm unable to answer back. Evan Anderson scored the Cougars first goal of the game, followed by Brett Turgeon, Barrett Paton scored, assisted by Drake Smith and Wyatt Revet netted goal number four. Second period began with Marc Shaw scoring shorthanded on a great pass from Brett Turgeon and Drake Smith was successful on a pass from Bailey Stigings.
The Storm was able to answer back this time with two quick back to back goals. But the Cougars add one more before period end with Brett Turgeon finding the back of the net on another great pass from line mate Marc Shaw. Jodi Black came out for the third period standing tall and confident between the pipes and shut down the Prairie Storm, ending their chances at a comeback for this game. Her teammates added three more points to the board, first from Connor Paton assisted by Evan Anderson and two from Brett Turgeon assisted by Marc Shaw and Kirkland Chalus. The defensive lines played a strong game on the blue line and did a great job keeping the puck away from the net. Final score was 10-3 Carlyle.
