Minor Ball in Assiniboia has wrapped up for another season. This year there was a record number of children that played ball in Assiniboia.
The co-ed minor ball had one team of tykes, five teams of pre-rally cap and five teams of rally cap.
The tykes group had 12 enthusiastic three to four-year olds who played tykes baseball. Each week they practiced various skills and even attempted a little game play along with parents and siblings. They wrapped up their season on June 22.
The five pre-rally cap teams, made up of players aged five to six years, focused on skill development and played games for fun amongst the teams in town.
The rally cap teams learned skills as well as game play. They also took part in playoffs in Coronach.
The softball teams saw mites, squirts and peewees competing in the 小蓝视频 Country Softball League, while the bantam girls traveled to Moose Jaw for league play. The playoffs for softball were hosted in Gravelbourg.
According to coach Lisa Martin, the Mite team 鈥渄id well this year, ending the season with the best games, losing the bronze medal game at playoffs 0-1. This season, we accomplished all our team goals and each player improved every time they stepped on the field. Most of all, we grew as a team and had so much fun!鈥
The squirt girls 鈥渉ad an amazing year improving their skills and finishing with a silver medal at finals versus Lafleche.鈥 The peeweee girls started off with seven girls, so they pulled up girls from the squirt team to play. There were five girls who had never played ball before and the team lost a few games and won some too. They beat Coronach in their playoff round with a close, exciting game winning by one run.
The bantam girls won the Moose Jaw Minor Girls Softball League for the second consecutive year with a season record of six wins and four losses. They competed in tournaments in Saskatoon, Regina and Saskatoon.
Two mosquito teams were fielded in baseball. One was coached by Trevor Peterson and Chris Mansuy and the other by Kylie Volsky, Al Sinclair, and Tim Peterson. Trevor Peterson鈥檚 team played 11 games with seven wins and four losses. The team lost to Lafleche in the semi-finals during the playoffs. The team coached by Kylie Volsky won the B side at playoffs in Coronach.
The peewees also had two teams this year with nine players on each team. One team was coached by Ron Lucas and the other by Mike Morhart. At the end of the season, both teams ended up with an 8-4 record, they split the season series with two wins apiece, and met in the 鈥淎鈥 final of the League Playoffs. In the end, the Assiniboia First Team, coached by Mike Morhart, won the peewee boys league championship.
The midgets had 10 wins and one loss in regular season. The team went on to win all three of their games at playoffs, beating Ponteix in the final to win the 鈥淎鈥 side trophy.
