Since dropping a 5-2 decision to the Notre Dame Argos back on November 5, the Estevan Apex midget AA Bruins have been on fire, winning five consecutive league games and a tough Kelly Dmyterko Memorial tournament in Prince Albert. The latest of those league wins came at home this weekend.
The lowly Melville Millionaires were in town on Friday night and gave the Bruins all they could handle in a 9-6 Estevan victory. The Bruins came flying out of the gates, scoring four goals in the first 12 minutes and chasing Millionaires starting goalie Haiden Block in the process.
The goaltending change sparked Melville, and at one point in the second period they held a 6-5 lead. However, another netminder switch caused another turning point late in the second, as Matthew Karius - Block's replacement - got hurt, and was forced to leave the game. The Bruins took advantage, and went on to win 9-6.
Austin Halladay (two goals, two assists) and Dylan Johner (one goal, three assists) led the way offensively for Estevan. Marshall Holzer (2), Dylan Herzberg, Cole Blischak, Rhett Handley and Mark Moriarty had the other Bruin goals.
On Saturday night, Estevan had the chance to get retribution against the Argos, and they did just that with a 4-1 win. Herzberg had an excellent game for the Bruins as he contributed on all four goals with a goal and three assists. Johner (2) and Holzer had Estevan's other markers, while Nate Ferris earned the win in goal.
The Bruins (13-3-1) will be in Melville to play the Mils on Friday night, before hosting the Regina Wild at 8 p.m. on Saturday, and the Weyburn Wings at 6:45 p.m. on Sunday.
