Worker injury resulted in $126,000 fine for EVRAZ

Regina – Steelmaker EVRAZ pleaded guilty to one count under Occupational Health and Safety regulations in Regina Provincial Court on June 17, 2019.

EVRAZ Inc. NA Canada pleaded guilty to contravening subsection 69(1) of the regulations (СÀ¶ÊÓƵ an employer, fail, while workers were present at a worksite, to provide lighting that is sufficient to protect the health and safety of workers and suitable for the work to be done at the site, resulting in serious injury to a worker).

The company was fined $90,000 plus a surcharge of $36,000. Two other charges were withdrawn.

Charges stemmed from an incident that occurred in Regina on September 30, 2016. A worker’s foot was injured when it struck a piece of waste metal while the employees was riding on a railcar.
