The Weyburn Oilfield Technical Society (OTS) will host their 53rd annual bonspiel at the Weyburn Curling Rink on Friday, Jan. 28 and Saturday, Jan. 29. There are 24 rinks currently registered for the event.

The OTS Bonspiel is a six-end skins format, with rinks paying by the end. The bonspiel runs as a two-day event. It includes a social on Friday night, and a breakfast on Saturday morning.

There is still time for rinks to register for the bonspiel. For those oilfield curlers who would like to participate, but do not have a rink, they are encouraged to contact Michael Mainil, at Caprice Resources, who is the chairman of the OTS Bonspiel.

The main purpose of the bonspiel is to "have an yearly social event for networking for energy representatives in the Weyburn area," explained Mainil.

This arrangement is a great opportunity for new employees in the oil patch. "If it is just one curler, and they are still interested in networking and knowing others in the oil patch, we would like to hear from them," explained Mainil. "Even if they don't want to curl, they can still show up and spectate, and still network with other personal."

Both the OTS bonspiel, and of the yearly OTS golf tournament held during in the summer, utilize funds raised during the events to support youth sports in the community. The bonspiel aids the junior curling program, and the golf tournament aids the junior golfing program.

"Both networking events do support the community," added Mainil. "You never know, down the road these youth will be doing our job, and participating in the OTS social events."
