Weyburn council wrapup for Feb. 24

Among the decisions include zoning amendments and tender awards.
City hall-0147
Weyburn City Hall held their latest meeting Feb. 24.

WEYBURN - Here is a look at some highlights from the Feb. 24 meeting of Weyburn city council:

Council has given first reading to amendments to the Zoning Bylaw and Official Community Plan on an application to the zoning designation for 325 Queen Street.

According to the city, application is to change the zoning Highway Commercial (HC) to Medium Industrial (MI), to facilitate expansion of A&B Concrete and also remove the need for a zoning contract for Fido’s Place.

Now that first readings are done, the public consultation process is under way, with public notices to be issued in the Weyburn Review on February 26 and March 5, and a public hearing set for March 10. The city says the amendments must be reviewed by the Weyburn District Planning Commission before it goes to Council for approval; the Official Community Plan amendment also needs Ministerial approval prior to coming into effect.

Council has also given a ‘yes’ vote to an application to operate a mobile ice-cream bike on City-owned properties including Jubilee Park and Don Mitchell Park for the period May to September.

There were no major concerns with the Development Permit application from Melissa Wright for the mobile ice cream bike. The bike must abide by conditions that it does not obstruct traffic or pedestrian pathways, and maintains cleanliness at the sites.

Some contracts were awarded at the meeting:

Falcon Equipment Ltd. was awarded the contract for a new tandem axle dump truck with a hoist and dump box, with a total price of $215,575.00 plus applicable taxes. The city received three bids, with Falcon Equipment’s bid for its 2026 Freightliner M2-106 Plus coming in the lowest price.

This acquisition is to go towards the Public Works Department's snow removal, landfill hauling and utility dig efforts, with the city saying this should reduce reliance on contractors.

The 2025 Boulevard Tree Pruning Contract has been awarded to Green Drop LTD. for $43,225 plus applicable taxes. This program will see 350 trees pruned with priority streets СÀ¶ÊÓƵ Eaglesham Avenue, McGillivray Drive, and sections of 11th and 12th Street. The work is to be completed by Dec. 31.
