ASSINIBOIA - The Town of Assiniboia will recognize Veterans Week during November 5 to 11. The proclamation was made during the Assiniboia council meeting, held on October 25.
In attendance were: Mayor Sharon Schauenberg; Kerri Martin, executive assistant; Clint Mauthe, chief admin officer; Nick Zuck, director of operations; and Councilors Peter Kordus, Graham Harvey, Patrick Grondin, Kent Fettes, Robert Ellis and Paul Tendler (attending by conference call.)
The meeting was called to order at 7:30 p.m. The agenda was adopted and accepted by Fettes/Kordus. There were public acknowledgements given to Assiniboia Times for coverage of the meeting, Tom Stanley, and to RCMP members Dennis Sillker and Colin Tetreault.
Approval of minutes from last meeting was accepted and adopted by Ellert/Fettes
Minutes from Finance and Admin Committee, Minutes of Planning and Economic Dev Committee, and Minutes of Prince of Wales Meeting all accepted and adopted as read by Grondin/Harvey.
The Town of Assiniboia recognized World Polio Day on October 24.
The Assiniboia RCMP presented a report during the delegations portion of the meeting. Sgt. Sillker introduced Colin Tetreault, new RCMP member, to council. Tetreault was welcomed to Assiniboia and to this detachment.
In correspondence, the provincial fire dispatch fees were accepted and adopted by Fettes/Grondin.
The chief admin officer recently attended a good meeting with Minister of Agriculture. He also attended the Chamber of Commerce luncheon. He reported that funds for the Trailer Court are here and in the bank. There was a finance report and paid account report submitted.
Some questions from these reports brought to the floor by Councilor Harvey. Reports accepted and adopted by Fettes/Grondin.
Coun. Harvey attended the Prince of Wales meeting. He also attended the Halloween party, and reported it was very well planned and presented.
Mayor Schauenberg offered congratulations to Steph Vandesype on the Halloween party success, as she thought it was very well attended and well planned. The mayor attended the Chamber of Commerce luncheon as guest speaker. She reported that the Lights of Love Ceremony would be held Nov. 17, the Santa Claus parade will be held Dec. 1, and a Christmas Social for the Chamber will be held Dec. 3.
In new business, the town received a request for a decision from the Assiniboia Arts Council, regarding a proposed butterfly art sculpture will be built on the front lawn of the town office. They will raise the funds to build this through their own fundraising. Accepted and adopted by Tendler/ Grondin.
The Tax Title Property offer has come in on one of the listed properties through tax enforcement. It was accepted and adopted by Harvey/ Kordus. A list of land in arrears will be listed in the Assiniboia Times newspaper. Accepted and adopted by Grondin/Harvey.
An out of budget expense was submitted by the Fire Department, for repairs to a ladder truck that was not budgeted for. Accepted and adopted by Kordus/ Ellert.
The Assiniboia Town Council will gather for their next meeting on Monday, November 8.
