Veteran鈥檚 Week proclaimed in Assiniboia as November 5 to 11

It was proclaimed by Mayor Schauenberg that November 5-11 will be observed as Veteran鈥檚 Week in Assiniboia.

ASSINIBOIA - Town Council gathered for a meeting on October 25. Council members included Mayor Sharon Schauenberg; Councillors Robert Ellert, Kent Fettes, Patrick Grondin, Peter Kordus, Renee Clermont; CAO Clint Mauthe; and Kerri Martin.

There were public acknowledgements given to RCMP officer Corporal Jon Tamlin and Assiniboia Times at the meeting.

The agenda accepted and adopted as presented. Moved by Fettes/Grondin. Minutes of last council meeting accepted as presented. Moved by Ellert/Clermont.

Council received the minutes of the planning and development meeting from May 4; the minutes of Recreation and Community Wellness from June 9, the minutes of Recreation and Community Wellness from June 27, and the minutes of Finance and Admin Committee from Sept. 7. All minutes were accepted and adopted as read. Moved by Fettes/ Grondin

RCMP report given Corporal Jon Tamlin who is acting Sgt.  for a period of six months. Tamlin reports new officers will be here by end of November to help with the staff shortage. General discussion with council about concerns around town and the surrounding areas from the policing perspective. The report was accepted and adopted as presented. Moved by Kordus/ Fettes.

Proclamations:

It was proclaimed by Mayor Schauenberg that November 5-11 will be observed as Veteran’s Week in Assiniboia. Accepted and adopted. Moved by Grondin/Kordus.

It was proclaimed by Mayor Schauenberg that the week of November 19-27 will be Saskatchewan Multicultural Week in the town of Assiniboia. Accepted and adopted. Moved by Fettes/Clermont.

Correspondence received and accepted from: Minister Everett Hindley – Rural recruitment; -SUMAssure – Municipal insurance. Accepted and adopted as presented. Moved by Kordus/Grondin.

Administration report given by Clint Mauthe.  He reported that surveying has started by Department of Highways, further to road repair to come. Reports another water main break at the golf course that will be repaired before winter sets in. Assiniboia will host a conference in Moose Jaw that will showcase our area next summer.

Statement of financial activity was given and accepted as presented. List of paid accounts accepted and adopted as presented.  Moved by Fettes/ Harvey.

Request for decision:

Harassment Policy - updated to meet OHS standards. Moved by Clermont/Grondin.

Airport Memorandum of Understanding - adopted and will be presented to RM 72 and 73. Moved by Ellert/Fettes.

Regional Park- TOA approves cart storage building on parcel C at the golf course and supports the regional park applying to change the boundary lines of the driving range/cart storage (parcel c) so it is included as part of the regional park. Moved by Clermont/Grondin.

Provincial Highways 2 and 13 operation and maintenance agreement. Moved by Harvey/Fettes.

Appointment of Auditor -  Firm Dudley and Company have been hired and will start working with Assiniboia in November.  Moved by Harvey/Grondin.

Acquire Tax Title- under the tax enforcement act, property to be acquired. Moved by Ellert/Fettes.

Council presentations were given by councillors regarding meetings, presentations or activities they had attended since last council meeting. 

Assiniboia will welcome another new Ukrainian family to town in early November.  It is proposed to host a meet and greet for all the new residents to town in the future.

Plans for Citizens On Patrol Program are progressing and it is hoped to be operational very soon.

The Assiniboia Museum has lost several board members and ask anyone interested in this board to please come forward.

Snow removal for this winter will be dumped at the Ball diamonds. 

Next meeting scheduled for November 8, 6:30 p.m.
