The special weather statement that was issued for southern Saskatchewan has been lifted, and a snowfall warning has been issued in its place.
Environment Canada issued a special weather statement early Thursday and ended it just before 4 p.m., shortly after the snowfall warning was issued for most of southern Saskatchewan, including the Moose Jaw, Assiniboia, Swift Current, Maple Creek and Moosomin regions. It says heavy snow will occur from Friday afternoon through Saturday afternoon.
The developing low-pressure system tracking along the international border will spread accumulating snow into southwestern Saskatchewan Friday afternoon, extending eastward to the Manitoba border by late Friday evening.
Moderate easterly winds with this disturbance will produce areas of blowing snow on Friday night which Environment Canada said could result in deteriorating travel conditions. Additional warnings or advisories may be needed should forecast wind speeds or snowfall amounts increase further.
The snowfall will taper off Saturday afternoon as the system departs.
