REGINA - The extreme cold warning for southern Saskatchewan has been lifted.
Environment Canada issued the warning Tuesday afternoon, saying extreme wind chill values in the -40 C to -45 C range were expected Tuesday night for most of southern Saskatchewan, thanks to a bitterly cold Arctic air mass settling over the region. The extreme cold persisted for most of the week.
The warning started with the Regina, Estevan, Carlyle, Weyburn and Moosomin regions, and was later expanded to the rest of the south, including Moose Jaw, Assiniboia, Swift Current and Maple Creek areas.
While frigid temperatures persist Friday, and the overnight low is expected to remain well below normal, the warning was lifted Friday morning.
A significant warmup is expected on Saturday and Sunday.
