ASSINIBOIA - Excitement is in the air, as it was recently announced that a new venue was secured to host the RCMP Musical Ride, to be held in Assiniboia on Wednesday, June 15.
“We have changed the 6 p.m. show to be outside at the Assiniboia Fairgrounds,” explained Stephanie VanDeSype, Recreation and Community Wellness Manager for the Town of Assiniboia
“We have sold 1,100 tickets so far for this event. We will not sell out as there are unlimited amount of seats available,” added VanDeSype.
There will be bleachers set up around the riding arena, plus the seating available in the grandstands. Residents can bring lawn chairs if they would like, as there would be room for those. Porta potties will be available on site.
Advance tickets for the RCMP Musical Ride are no longer available, and will only be sold at the door now. Tickets for the Musical Ride cost $20 for adults, $10 for students and ages five and under are free.
There will also be a supper available for purchase for $10 a plate, which includes barbecue beef, salad and beans. Cash will only be accepted.
“Preparations are great, we are overwhelmed with sponsorship and support from our community,” noted VanDeSype.
She added that there would be a special 1 p.m. show held exclusively for students and the Care Home residents to enjoy. There will also be a parade, with the time and location to be announced later.
There will be RCMP horses in the Agriplex all day, people are welcome to come meet the horses and riders when they are not performing.
The world-renowned RCMP Musical Ride troop of 32 horses and riders will be performing. Every year, the Musical Ride brings its show to communities across the country to perform a variety of figures and drills choreographed to music. The show provides the public with an opportunity to experience the heritage and traditions of the RCMP and raise funds for local charities across Canada.
“I am pleased to welcome the RCMP Musical Ride to Assiniboia on behalf of our detachments,” said Sgt. Dennis Silliker, NCO in charge of the Assiniboia and Gravelbourg RCMP detatchments. “The history of the RCMP is uniquely tied to our area from the historic March West of the North West Mounted Police to the modern Royal Canadian Mounted Police and the services we provide our communities today.”
“On a personal note, having been a member of the musical ride and traveling both domestically and internationally, I can say the RCMP’s red serge on black horses is still an icon that is recognized the world over and is a unique piece of our Canadian history. I would like to invite you all to come and participate in our celebration of Canadian heritage.
All the proceeds from this event will go to Kinsmen Club of Assiniboia and Rotary Club of Assiniboia for local projects.
