Two fatal car crashes in the Weyburn-area have taken the life of a young woman and an elderly man.
Weyburn RCMP continue to investigate a two-vehicle collision that occurred on Highway 13 at Griffin on February 16 at approximately 7:23 a.m. The initial investigation revealed that a single occupant oilfield service truck, travelling west-bound, wasstopped on Highway 13 and turning into Griffin when it was struck from behind by a single occupant Ford Explorer truck also travelling west-bound.
The81-year-old male driver of the Ford Explorer truck wastransported to Weyburn General Hospital where he was pronounced deceased. The55-year-old male driver of the oilfield service truck sustained minor injuries for which he later sought medical treatment.
The victim has been identified as Rene Augey of Stoughton.
Members of the Estevan RCMP are currently investigating a two-vehicle collision on Highway 18, 14 kilometres west of Estevan. A head-on collision, involving a small passenger car and semi tractor unit, occurred on February 14 at approximately6:45 a.m.
The20-year-old female driver of the car was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the semi unit was not injured.
Road conditions and alcohol are not believed to have been a factor in the collision. The highway was closed and traffic re-routed for the remainder of the day while a coroner and a traffic collision analyst attended the scene. The investigation is ongoing.
The name of the victim involved in this accident was not released at the time of publication.
