The results are in.
Candidate Ed Komarnicki of the Conservative party took the majority of the votes in the Souris-Moose Mountain riding, obtaining 21,598 votes or 74 per cent of the vote. New Democratic Party candidate Allan Arthur received 5,461 votes or 18.7 per cent of the vote, while the Liberal candidate, Gerald Borrowman, received 1,236 votes or 4.2 per cent of the vote. Bob Deptuck, candidate for the Green Party, received 898 votes or 3.1 per cent of the vote.
With a population of 63,238 within the electoral district, 46,242 people are eligible to vote. This year, 29,193 electors placed their vote at stations spread throughout the district, resulting in a voter turnout of 63.1 per cent.
Provincially, the story told an almost unanimous story. With 14 seats available in parliament for Saskatchewan electoral districts, 13 of the seats belong to the Conservative Party which obtained 92.9 per cent of the popular vote. Ralph Goodale, from the Wascana riding in Regina, was the only Liberal to obtain a seat with 7.1 per cent of the popular vote. A voter turnout of 64.1 per cent province-wide was obtained.
Nationally, results from this year's election show a very different story than the 2008 election. Preliminary results showed the Conservative Party obtaining 167 seats in parliament and acting as the majority, the NDP has 102 seats, followed by the Liberal with 34 seats. The Bloc Quebecois received four seats with the Green Party obtaining one seat in parliament.
Nationally, voter turnout was 61.4 per cent. This is higher than the 2008 election, which saw the lowest turnout of voters since 1898 with 58.8 per cent.
