The Assiniboia Senior Rebels used their experience and hustle to route the СÀ¶ÊÓƵern Junior B Rebels with an 11-4 finish in the Annual Mattson Memorial match on Saturday, December 21. With a good crowd on hand, The Junior Rebels opened up an early 2-0 lead on goals from Hutchinson and Coldwell, but the Senior Rebels bounded back with five straight tallies with two each from Carson Cayer and Brett Leslie and one from Bryce Hall to take a 5-2 lead into the second. Landon Marit, Kevin Powell and Dakota Helland added goals in the middle frame, while Hutchinson scored again for the youthful Rebels to end the period 8-3. In the third, Scotty Anderson, Kyle Hall and Powell again put the match to bed, while Hutchinson scored his hattrick to finish the evening’s scoring, making it 11-4 for the Senior Rebels.
The Senior Rebels’ next action will be on Saturday, January 4 in a first-place showdown with the Hodgeville Huskies. This match between Hodgeville and the Rebels will be a home game at the Assiniboia Civic Centre with the puck dropping at 7:30 p.m. The Hodgeville Huskies have had an up and down December in the Notekeu League, having just lost to Glentworth Thunder on December 21 at the Glentworth Waverly Sports Gardens with a 4-6 result. However, the Huskies handily defeated the Senior Rebels on their turf on November 23, with a 7-4 victory, so the game on January 4 will certainly be one to watch. Speaking of Thunder, the Seniors will be meeting up with Glentworth once again on January 10 at the Waverly Sports Gardens with the game starting at 8:30 p.m. At this point, as 2019 draws to a close, the Hodgeville Huskies are leading the Notekeu League standings while the Rebels are in a close second. Glentworth Thunder is at the bottom of the Notekeu League in fifth place.
The Juniors are away in Fort Qu'Appelle on January 3, contesting against Fort Knox. Soon after, the Junior Rebels will play a home game on Wednesday, January 8 against the Silver Foxes. Then the Rebels will face off against the Capitals once more on January 10 at the Assiniboia Civic Centre Arena. Each of these home games will have a 7:30 start.
The Extreme Hockey Regina Capitals are reigning in the Bill Johnston Division with 44 total points as of December 2019, while the Junior Rebels are in the second last position with 16 total points.  Â
