The Saskatchewan RCMP Major Crime Unit (MCU)-North has been investigating the homicide of Tiki Laverdiere and have continued to follow up on all information and tips since July 2019. To date, 10 people have been charged and are before the courts or have been sentenced聽for their roles in her death.聽
On August 26, 2020, the Edmonton Police Service arrested a 36-year-old male聽wanted by the RCMP MCU-North聽on a Canada-wide warrant for his role in Tiki Laverdiere's murder.聽聽
Samuel Takakenew (DOB: 1984-08-27) was charged on August 4, 2020, with Accessory after the fact to Murder, contrary to Section 23(1) and 240 of the聽Criminal Code.聽
Takakenew had been living in the city of Edmonton, since the time of Laverdiere's murder.
Takakenew remains in police custody and聽will be聽returned to North Battleford聽early next week.聽
Once back in Saskatchewan, he will be appearing in聽North Battleford Provincial Court, the date and time are yet to be determined.聽
Samuel Takakenew is the son of Mavis Quinn Takakenew, who was arrested in August 2019 for her role in the death of Tiki Laverdiere.
