Spring is a “Fresh Start” for Communities in Bloom

At long last, spring has finally arrived and not a moment too soon. Spring is magic here on the prairies. Very soon, the grass will be green, buds on shrubs and trees will become leaves, and flowers will be all in full bloom.
Fresh Start

At long last, spring has finally arrived and not a moment too soon. Spring is magic here on the prairies. Very soon, the grass will be green, buds on shrubs and trees will become leaves, and flowers will be all in full bloom.

Thanks to a non-profit organization called Communities in Bloom, Assiniboia will also once again bask in the beauty of the organization’s floral designs. Each year, more than 20 dedicated volunteers will work selflessly to help make and keep our community colourful and beautiful. There are not enough ways to say thank you!

Marita Williams and her daughter Diane, who owns ‘Fresh Start’, a restaurant/cafe in the Shurniak Art Gallery, have found a unique and delightful way to say “thank you” to Communities in Bloom. On April 10, these two ladies presented a cashier’s cheque to the organization for $1,138. Joanne Girardin, spokesperson and volunteer with Communities in Bloom, gratefully accepted the cheque. This donation will help a worthwhile organization in need of funding.

Said Williams in an interview, “We were looking for a very practical and sensible way to say thanks to a wonderful organization for a job well done, and the beauty it graciously shares with this whole community.”

The donation was part of funds raised at an Easter bake sale held to raise money for Communities in Bloom. Williams added, “The Easter bake sale will now be an annual event here at ‘Fresh Start’. It’s just one tiny way we can say thanks and show our appreciation.”
