The Envisions Counselling and Support Centre will be holding a "Ten Weeks to Self-Esteem" women's group beginning on Wednesday, Feb. 16.

"Self-esteem is not boasting or bragging; instead, it is an honest understanding of an individual's internal strengths which allows a person to reach beyond their comfort zones," said Patt Lenover-Adams, executive director of Envision. She added that the group setting allows women to explore and increase their self-worth by relating to others who have been or are in similar situations.

The group members will be encouraged to explore ways in which they can develop strategies to increase their own self-esteem, in an effort to empower themselves in their everyday lives.

Envision has run the self-esteem group for many years, and one past participant related that the group "helped me to feel great about myself, and I now feel so much more in control and able to reach my goals and dreams."

Topics will focus on self-confidence, decision-making, problem solving, empowerment and generally help members to believe in themselves. The group is ideal for women who have struggled with a lack of confidence in their personal or professional lives.

The group will be a closed session, which means no new members will be admitted once the sessions have started. Members will be asked to actively participate, as the more active a person is in the group, the more beneficial it will be.

It will meet on Tuesday evenings and is open to women over the age of 18 years. There is no fee for the sessions, but those interested must pre-register by calling the Weyburn Envision office. The registration deadline is Feb. 11.
