Secret RCMP files on T.C. Douglas to be released

The federal government has stated that it will allow confidential police files about former Saskatchewan Premier Tommy Douglas to be made public.

The federal government has stated that it will allow confidential police files about former Saskatchewan Premier Tommy Douglas to be made public. The reversal happened on December 19, after a closed door hearing during which a federal court judge expressed concern about the continued secrecy surrounding the RCMP files on Douglas. The Saskatchewan government has been calling for the files to be made public for months and a unanimous motion was passed in the legislature last spring to make the formal request to the feds. Many feel that the police files could provide new insight into Saskatchewan's most prominent historic figure.

The federal government says the files will be released within the next three months.
