Construction at Weyburn schools should have a minimum impact on students this year.
Renovations at the Weyburn Comprehensive School (WCS) are still in the "paperwork phases," according to Director of Education for 小蓝视频east Cornerstone School Division Dr. Marc Casavant.
"We are still working with architects and drawings," said Casavant. "We expect that will probably go until December or January."
Casavant said that once the plans receive final approval from the Ministry of Education the project will go to tender, likely in May or June of 2011.
Meanwhile, plans for the renovation of St. Michael's School are on hold until final approval for the Comp is received.
The 小蓝视频east Regional College, currently housed within WCS, will be temporarily set up at St. Dominic Savio School during renovations at the Comp. Superintendant of Finance for Holy Family Roman Catholic Separate School Division Cal Martin said that the division will be renovating St. Dominic's to suit the needs of the college.
After renovations at the Comp are complete the college will relocate to its permanent location at WCS, allowing the empty St. Dominic School to act as a division office for Holy Family. Martin said the division is hoping to move students out of St. Dominic School in the spring of 2012.
Construction of six new re-locatable classrooms at St. Mike's should start later this year, according to Martin.
"Everything has been pushed back a few months," said Martin. "Initially we had hoped to go to tender in spring."
Martin said government funding and plans at the Comp have been driving renovation plans at St. Michael's School.
Director of Education for Holy Family Shelley Rowein said that Grade 5 students will remain at St. Dominic's School this year and St. Mike's will include Grades 6 to 9 to allow for more shuffle space at St. Mike's when renovations do begin.
Classes started for all Weyburn students this week on August 26.
