REGINA — Regina police have laid charges against a man rescued from a downtown rooftop on Thursday, where he became stranded while attempting to create social media content.

Building security contacted police at approximately 2:30 p.m. on Nov. 18, after spotting an unknown male individual on the roof of a building on the 1800 block of Scarth Street.

The man, later identified as 29-year-old Igor Lubura of Regina, was sitting on the pedway with legs hanging over the edge.

Police responded, determining that Lubura was unable to return to the ground safely on his own.

Traffic, including bus routes, on 11th Avenue and Scarth Street was shut down or diverted as the Regina Fire Department joined the scene.

Members of the Regina Fire Technical Rescue Team were able to secure Igura to a basket, using a truck ladder, and lower him to the ground with no injuries.

Lubura was charged with mischief over $5,000, but the charge was ultimately stayed by the Crown in April, 2022.
