RCMP responded to a fatal vehicle collision over the weekend near Moose Jaw

Moose Jaw RCMP received the report of a vehicle collision involving an SUV and a semi-truck, approximately 10 kilometres east of Moose Jaw on Highway 1 and west of Belle Plaine on August 29 at approximately 4:17 p.m.

It was reported to police the SUV was travelling north on a grid approaching the Highway 1. The SUV did not slow down for the stop sign and proceeded through the intersection at a high speed.

The SUV struck the semi’s trailer as the semi travelled east.

When officers arrived, the SUV was fully engulfed in flames. The 77-year-old male driver and lone occupant of the SUV was declared deceased on scene.

The 28-year-old male driver – the lone occupant of the semi-truck – didn’t not sustain any injuries from the collision.

RCMP will not be releasing the identities of those involved.

An RCMP Collision Reconstructionist, the Saskatchewan Coroner’s Service, along with Pense Fire and Moose Jaw EMS attended the scene.

Saskatchewan RCMP also responded to fatal collisions in Pelican Narrows, North Battleford and the Fort Qu'Appelle areas over the weekend between August 29-30.

Investigations are ongoing for all incidents.
