Weyburn was host to over 50 police chiefs, deputy chiefs and high-ranking RCMP officers, recently.
The Saskatchewan Association of Chiefs of Police Conference was held in Weyburn on October 14 and 15 and focused on several issues facing officers in the province.
Some of the topics covered at the conference, according to Weyburn Police Chief Howard Georgeson, were how officers deal with those suffering from a mental illness, Criminal Code issues, and legislation that law enforcement officials would like to see implemented.
Georgeson said that one topic that was covered was the issue of driving without a drivers licence.
"Right now, if you're stopped for a traffic offense, there is no law that says you have to carry your license with you," said Georgeson.
During the conference, the consensus agreed that it should be an offense to drive without carrying a valid driver's licence. Currently, there is a law that states that drivers pulled over for a driving offense must produce their license within 48 hours to the police.
