Report from the Weyburn Police Service for the period of January 31 to February 6:
*On February 5, two males one from Weyburn and one from Lang were arrested and charged with possessing a small amount of marijuana, which was discovered as a result of a traffic stop. One other local male was arrested on outstanding warrants. All three will make initial court appearances in February.
*On February 4, police were called to a local hotel to deal with a female who was asked to leave. The matter was resolved without incident.
*Police were called to investigate an accident on King Street that had actually occurred on January 21; there was one minor injury reported. Road conditions were a factor.
*Police were called to a local hotel to investigate a theft from a room. A fridge and towels were reported missing. The matter is under investigation.
*On February 2, police were called to assist RCMP members with a possible abduction that occurred outside of Weyburn. Two individuals were later arrested by Weyburn RCMP.
*Police were called to investigate a report of harassing text messages. The matter was resolved without further incident.
*Police were called to a local bar to remove an intoxicated female who was refusing to leave. She left with police and was taken to a relative's home.
*On February 1, police were called to a minor motor vehicle accident on Second Street, where one vehicle had struck a post. Damage was minor and there were no injuries reported.
*On January 31, police were called to investigate a minor assault; the matter was mediated.
*In conjunction with the Regina Prosecutions office, the Weyburn Police Service has concluded a 13-month investigation regarding an internal business theft with the laying of charges.
A 54-year-old female from the Whitebear Lake area has been charged with one count of theft over $5,000 and one count of fraud over $5,000 relating to the theft of money from her former business partner. Although the thefts were noticed in April of 2010, the allegation dates back to 2005 and continued for five years. The accused will be making her first court appearance in February.
*During this reporting period there were 97 calls for service, many were alcohol related.
Residents are reminded that with recent heavy snow falls vehicles are not to be parked on city streets for any period over 48 hours. Also, City crews will post street maintenance warnings and residents are to remove their vehicles when these postings are made.
Several traffic tickets have again been issued for using an electronic device while driving; residents are reminded of this prohibition.
